FAQ’s

Here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your first class. Still have questions? Give us a call!

Yes and yes! However, ALL new students to Lexington are required to pass our Blue Belt test to qualify for promotion of any kind on any belt color.

You can attend ANY Fundamentals 1 class completely FREE. Email Jeb to schedule.

  • Show up to class about 15 minutes early.
  • Wear workout type clothes. (We’ll provided a uniform to wear though)
  • Bring any and all questions! We like questions so please don’t hold back.
  • Be prepared to have fun!

If being a Black Belt is an immediate goal our Academy is not for you. However, here’s a break down for a student who train 2-3 times per week:

  • White belt (new student) to Blue Belt: 1 to 2yrs
  • Blue to Purple Belt: 2-3yrs
  • Purple to Brown Belt: 3yrs+
  • Brown to Black Belt: 3yrs++

The cost is consistent work over for long periods of time. When our students earn a belt, they are awarded that belt. Belt rank at Lexington Jiu Jitsu is not for sale.

Our head instructor, Jeb, received ALL of his BELTS from a Pedro Sauer Black Belt & 25-year veteran Mickey Swafford of Chattanooga Jiu Jitsu Academy. (this is Jeb’s home gym)

Currently, Jeb is a 1 stripe Pedro Sauer Black Belt with nearly 20 years of experience. Additionally, Lexington Jiu Jitsu has 5 additional Black Belt, all of whom have been promoted by Mickey or Jeb himself.

Our memberships are month-to-month at a cost of $115-$150 per month. Auto billing required.

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, we have full-time women training 7 days a week and in most classes, you will see on of our amazing girls.

Technically speaking, you can train 5 days a week. However, you should find a schedule that works for you, something you can enjoy. If you enjoy training, you’ll stick with it and if you stick with it your life will be noticeably enhanced. Therefore, we say train a minimum of 2 classes per week and up to 5 days a week. Jiu Jitsu is a marathon, not a sprint! Don’t get in a hurry just be consistent.

Yes! We have ‘new student’ beginner classes 7 Days a week. Please review our schedule to pick a class to attend.

Train Jiu Jitsu! There isn’t one activity that can prepare you for the movements you’ll do in Jiu Jitsu so just come to class. You’ll do better than you think! Of course, if you’re a weightlifter, runner, a cross fitter, a swimmer or whatever you will enjoy better cardio endurance.

No! In fact, the creator of Gracie Jiu Jitsu did private lessons the day he died at the age of 95. Our training is every age person!

It changed my life in the best possible way and it has given me confidence!

Not only does this academy offer top-notch instruction, Jeb provides a safe learning environment that allows his students to train for the long haul and with a lot of high-level training partners that'll push you as hard as you want to be pushed. I started at Lexington Jiu-Jitsu as a white belt, am now a purple belt, and am 100% positive I'll still be training here in the future as a black belt.

Excellent place to train! Friendly, knowledgeable, & professional instructors that make training fun. Great group of people to learn Jiu-Jitsu with. Classes are available 7 days a week. That schedule is Le-Jit. Best school around, no doubt!

When you visit a new martial arts class for the first time, you never really know what you're going to find. I'll tell you what I found at Lexington Jiu-Jitsu: I found a great class full of great people to train with, led by great instructors who walk through class during drills and give individual instruction to help you learn technique properly.

Ryan Ricker

Love the atmosphere at this academy. Lineage is legit and the curriculum is excellent. Comfortable for students of all ages and ability levels. I can't recommend Lexington Jiu-Jitsu enough for anyone interested in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or self-defense. This is the absolute best academy in the midlands for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

Dan Trefzger

Hands down the best academy in the Columbia area. Well-trained instructors, solid teaching, comfortable & welcoming atmosphere. LJJ is one-of-a-kind, offering a complete self-defense curriculum that applies to both the street and the mat. Jeb has created something special and you really won't find better! Stop thinking about it and just go in and try a class!

Alex Monaghan

Excellent teaching in a supportive environment! I've been going for two years and I love having the opportunity to train with such a great team of men and women. The focus is always on personal improvement and solid technique. As a life-long couch potato, I didn't think martial arts was something I could ever learn, let alone enjoy, but Lexington Jiu Jitsu changed my mind! It has been a Le-Jit experience!
